US and Irish Prescription of Collaborative Innovation for Global Healthcare


Today, Wednesday 15th May, 2013, Global Health Accelerator HealthXL welcomed Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray and IBM Watson Team for Digital Health and Life Science Trade Summit in HealthXL Headquarters, Trinity Technology & Enterprise Campus, Dublin 2 (#HealthXL #MassSummit).

The objective of today’s digital health gathering is to initiate ‘US & Irish prescription of collaborative innovation for global healthcare’, by connecting cutting edge innovators within thriving digital health hubs to explore new technologies and collaborative opportunities. 

Massachusetts Governor and Senate President will be joined by Pamela Goldberg,President and CEO of Massachusetts Technology Collaborative eHealth Institute, Dr. Susan Windham-Bannister from Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and Stephen Gold VP Marketing from IBM Watson, to connect and collaborate and discuss the ‘Art of the possible’ in Healthcare.

Massachusetts dominates US market in health care reform, resulting from the 2006 landmark health care reform law.   The newest 2012 phase targets nearly $200 billion in health care cost over the next 15 years - lowering costs to make quality and affordable care a reality for all residents.   “In Massachusetts, we believe that health is a public good and that everyone should have access to affordable, quality care,” said Governor Patrick. “To deliver on that goal, we must invest in innovative solutions, new technologies and global partnerships.”

Massachusetts first elected woman and driving force behind state health care reform, Senate President Therese Murray commented; “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts recognizes the value of early stage innovators and wants to work together, at the heart of these innovations, to develop healthcare.  The Dublin based health accelerator, HealthXL, works together with cutting edge international entrepreneurs on next generation healthcare technology and we are excited to meet the teams and explore ways to collaborate together." 

The global accelerator powered by Startupbootcamp is passionate about changing the future of healthcare and how we maintain our health.  Seven of the world’s hottest health entrepreneurs were chosen from hundreds of international applications to take part in Europe’s most innovative health accelerator.  

Teams include;

·         Sense of Skin (Ireland) Technology-enabled programme to help people with sensitive skin avoid unsuitable health and beauty products.
·         goACT (Australia) Web-based software solutions for mental health professionals and their clients.
·         Nursebuddy (Finland) Tool designed to help nurses manage their day-to-day jobs using tablet devices.
·         Evinance (Canada) Real-time decision to put cancer patients in control of their own care.
·         myMedScore (US) Pioneering a cloud-based medical credit scoring and engagement platform
·         Nutritics (Ireland) Tracking and analysis software program for diet and nutrition.

Stephen Gold, VP Marketing for IBM Watson Solutions joined the summit today todiscuss the role next generation technology is playing in transforming the future of healthcare; “Healthcare is a global challenge and new cognitive technology, like IBM Watson, is helping us develop smarter healthcare offerings.  IBM values innovation and collaboration in building a smarter planet and is delighted to support digital health entrepreneurs globally from Australia to Africa, America to Asia, together with HealthXL”.
