10 Big names added to the Web Summit lineup
The CEO of flash sales site Gilt, payments company’s Paypal and Stripe have all been added to the lineup of Europe’s largest startup event. Called Europe’s answer to South By South West the Web Summit has also added Gentry Underwood, founder and CEO of Mailbox, one of the hottest startups launched this year and recently acquired by Dropbox. The controversial Mahbod Moghadam, co-founder of Rap Genius also joins a lineup of speakers at October’s Web Summit that already includes Skype and Atomico Founder Niklas Zennstrom, Evernote CEO Phil Libin and WPP board member and angel investor Esther Dyson.
The Web Summit will feature over 500 startups exhibiting to the partners of the top VC firms in the world: Index Ventures to Atomico, Google Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, KPCB and many others. While some events in Europe adopt a ‘pay to pitch’ attitude the Sunmmit’s Alhpa program is offering a select number of startups the opportunity to exhibit for the simple price of a ticket – nothing more - http://www.websummit.net/
Startups can also compete for the top spot in PITCH – sponsored by Box. Pitch will seek out the best and most high potential startup from an incredible list of judges that last year included Youtube founder Jawed Karim, acclaimed blogger Robert Scoble and Michael Birch of Bebo among others. This years winner will receive a prize to the value of €500,000 making it one of the largest prize funds for a startup in the world.
“We have an unrivalled platform of the most incredible VC’s and entrepreneurs, it’s really the only place in Europe to launch or build a startup from. Smart Things and Vine were among the startups that exhibited or pitched last year and we’re looking for the next crop of incredible companies now,” said Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave.
The Web Summit takes place in Dublin this October 30th and 31st. Tickets available from www.websummit.net
