Irish Twitter Entrepreneur Invites Local Businesses To Help Save Children’s Lives Through Yuletide Initiative

Christmas lunch in aid of the Baby Max Wings Of Love Fund, Bijou Bistro, Rathgar on Wednesday, 4 December, 2013 at 1pm

When Samantha Kelly heard that the Baby Max Wings Of Love Fund was unable to have its annual fundraising ball this year, she decided to organise a Christmas lunch on its behalf, in conjunction with her popular online Twitter community, #IrishBizParty.

The Baby Max Wings Of Love Fund was delighted with the offer of support and the lunch will take place at Bijou Bistro Restaurant, Dublin on 4 December. The event will support @BABYMAXFund which provides medical equipment to children’s hospitals, and will be run in conjunction with @IrishBizParty and @cooleventsinfo.

Samantha, a mum of two from Rosslare, runs the Twitter coaching business Tweeting Goddess, and hosts Radio Active’s Goddess Hour on Saturdays at 10pm. She hopes Irish businesses will get behind this charity initiative.

“This is the opportunity for @IrishBizParty and the wider community to give something back to the community this festive season,” says Samantha. “IrishBizParty is run on the principle that businesses and entrepreneurs help others, with unlimited networking opportunities for growth and support so I thought the Baby Max Wings of Love Fund was a good fit.”

The Fund was set up in 2001 and is run completely voluntarily by award-winning musician Darina Ní Chuinneagáin-Donnelly (@DarinaNiC) and her husband Declan Donnelly in memory of their son Max. The fund has since worked with medical suppliers purchasing all types of vital medical requested by doctors in children's hospitals throughout Ireland. It has also donated equipment to Dublin’s Laura Lyn Hospice. Thousands of children's lives have been helped and saved as a result of the work and medical equipment provided.

“We are delighted to have the support of IrishBizParty and the Irish business community this year,” says Darina. “We do not have time to organise our annual fundraising ball this year due to other commitments, bearing in mind all at Baby Max Wings of Love Fund is run solely and voluntarily by myself and Declan. This will be enjoyable for all - casual, smart, fun, entertaining and good networking!”

Last week, the New National Heart Unit opened at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, and Heart Monitors to the value of 250,000 Euros were donated by the Baby Max Wings of Love Fund. The Unit could not function without these and all monitors on children are also linked to a central station.

“I am so pleased that this event will help raise more funds for the worthy efforts by the Fund, and in turn make such a difference to so many children’s lives,” says Samantha.

“This event is a collaboration of me, Darina and Fiona from Cool Events. TV presenter/stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick will be the MC on the day. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to network and give back to a wonderful charity at the same time.”

Samantha is promoting the event through @IrishBizParty, which has over 3800 followers on Twitter. Irish businesses and entrepreneurs join in the ‘party’ every Wednesday from 9-11pm and many of them will attend the Christmas lunch.

The Twitter expert says leveraging online networks to promote such events shows how social networking is highly effective in raising awareness of charitable causes.

After winning the Rabo Tweetie ‘Inspire’ Award last month, Samantha has seen an increase in the number of Irish businesses approaching her to help set up their Twitter accounts.

She’s also gained a regular spot presenting on Ireland’s charity-supporting radio station. With recent speaking appearances at the Student Enterprise Show in Carlow, Ecommerce Ireland, an upcoming appearance at DCU Ryan Academy on 26 November and Twitter workshop at Clonacody house in Tipperary on 16 November, Samantha is making her voice heard.

The 2013 Mumpreneur Awards nominee has made her mark since entering the spotlight on Dragon’s Den in 2012. After the sale of her Funky Goddess business, she became Irish Ambassador for the online business network and the brains behind the trending #IrishBizParty hashtag, a social media success for Irish businesses.
