Qualcom creates 25 new jobs and spearheads growth with UK expansion

 Qualcom, a leading Irish provider of IT solutions, infrastructure and support services, today announced a new export-led expansion phase which will see it recruiting 25 new employees by August 2014. The company has just opened a Belfast office, from where it is leading its Northern Ireland and GB focused operations.

The company is investing €1.75 million in this expansion, backed by Invest Northern Ireland and existing shareholders.  It has already earned €0.5 million in UK revenues since it commenced exporting this year, with particular successes in the financial services sector.

The new positions are in the areas of engineering, professional services, IT consulting and sales and marketing. Thirteen of the roles are Dublin based and twelve in Belfast.

Qualcom provides IT infrastructure services to more than 200 enterprise customers in the public and private sectors.

It partners with some of the leading technology companies such as VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, EMC, IBM and HP.  It provides managed and professional IT services including managed security, virtualisation, disaster recovery, communications, and data storage and back-up.

Ken Breen, managing director, Qualcom said, “Whilst local market conditions have been somewhat challenging in recent times, we have had good growth in our managed services business in the last three years.  This has been driven by enterprises looking to benefit from the more cost competitive shared IT managed service support of an outsourced partner, rather than staff in-house.

“Customers like the way we deliver greater visibility and control over IT spending, leading to greater efficiencies and profitability for them.  Furthermore, with businesses continuing to be challenged with hiring qualified IT people, we help them grow at their own pace, unconstrained by IT infrastructure and in-house expertise.

“Our international expansion is led by the more buoyant market in the UK and our need to continue to ensure we can provide the most competitive service possible to all customers by maximising the utilisation of our Dublin based network operations centre.

“We have just opened a shared operations and network operations centre in Dublin.  Most administrative and remote support for UK customers will be based out of here, with on-premise sales and engineering visits provided via our Belfast offices.  We expect to expand this proposition further when we announce the opening of an office in England next year.”

Qualcom has been providing IT services to Irish customers for eighteen years.
