Mobile World Congress - some quick thoughts!

We are back from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and it has been a real eye opener. Larger and even more focused on overall integration from Web to mobile. From Mark Zuckerberg who only 18 months ago was being blamed because Facebook was not 'mobile' enough, now he is addressing the mobile glitterati! But he has just completed the largest purchase of an App so far this year.

The main thing that amazed me was the sheer scale of ambition from companies across the globe, from Warsaw to Israel, Ireland to Canada and beyond. The ecosystem has grown so quickly and from handset maker to app developer to payment (with bitcoin rumbling abounding) and cloud, everything now has a mobile aspect and focus.

It made me understand just why Zuckerberg was in Barcelona, social web is over and mobile is the only real driving force now.

From our Irish and Northern Irish exhibitors there was some exciting new companies. NI's Brewbot got some great exposure and cudos.  Enterprise Ireland put up a great Pavilion again this year and was great to see old and new faces networking with EI officials.

I am sure there will be some amazing changes to see in the coming year. I thanks everyone who took time to talk to Pete and I.

Finally I would like to add my thanks to Helen at Heroes of the Fringe events, who make evening catch ups a pleasure.
