One Big Switch sets up in Ireland

Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food Simon Coveney TD today announced that One Big Switch, the Australian headquartered consumer network, is to create 20 new roles in its newly established European HQ in Harcourt Street, Dublin by 2016. Minister Coveney made the official announcement from the company’s headquarters in Sydney, where he met with One Big Switch Co-Founder, Lachlan Harris.

The company will create roles in IT, media and campaign management, customer service, PR and administration. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

One Big Switch is a consumer network who negotiate on behalf of consumers, group discounted offers on household utilities. One Big Switch run media campaigns that elicit interest from consumers in saving money in utilities and banking charges, consumers then sign up on to The company then negotiates an exclusive group discounted deal with the provider and offers it to its customers. The company has run a number of successful campaigns in Australia and has over 500,000 subscribers in Australia.

Making the announcement Minister Coveney said: “One Big Switch is a highly innovative consumer driven company. I am delighted to announce the company’s decision to locate its European HQ in Dublin. This is a strategically important development for the company and Ireland will play a pivotal role in its international expansion.”

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: “This is a very welcome announcement from a fast-growing innovative international company. I wish One Big Switch every success with their new European HQ and look forward to working with them in the future”.

One Big Switch Co-Founder, Lachlan Harris said: “Following the success of our company in its first three years in Australia, we made decision to expand into Europe. We chose Ireland as the initial test market for Europe due to the similarities with Australian law, the language and cultural connection, the assistance of IDA Ireland and the location of Ireland as a gateway to Europe. We engaged with Irish entrepreneur and founder of GloHealth, Oliver Tattan as a launch partner.”

Welcoming the announcement Barry O’Leary, CEO, IDA Ireland said: “One Big Switch is using Ireland as a base in which to expand its business into Europe. IDA Ireland markets Ireland as a location for companies from across the world to gain access into the European market. IDA Ireland’s Growth Markets Division is actively targeting a number of companies in Australia - this investment win will assist in IDA’s marketing efforts.”

One Big Switch launched in Ireland in February 2014 with the Big Energy Switch, a campaign to attract group discounted electricity and gas. Over 30,000 people have signed up to the initial campaign.
