Impact of Student-Led Responsible Drinking Campaigns to be Highlighted at Awards

The results of campaigns by students for students, aimed at raising awareness of the need for responsible drinking, will be presented at the gala final of the competition at Smock Alley Theatre, 6/7 Exchange Street Lower, Dublin 8, at 7.15pm this evening, Wednesday, 30th April.
The competition – which is organised by – challenged third-level students to develop creative campaigns that highlight responsible drinking.  Seven teams were shortlisted in the competition, and received up to €2,000 each to implement their proposed campaigns. Each team was assigned a high-profile champion to assist them in their task.  The shortlisted teams are now invited to pitch their campaigns to the judging panel at tomorrow evening’s ‘Dragons Den’ style gala final.
Well-known TV presenter Kathryn Thomas will MC the event. She will be joined by a high-profile panel of judges, including Founder and CEO of and, Niall McGarry; Head of Media for UK & Ireland at PR Slides, and owner of The Savvy Shopper blog, Sinead Van Kampen; and Publishing Director of Hot Press, Duan Stokes.
Speaking ahead of the awards, Chief Executive of, Fionnuala Sheehan, said, “The standard of entries to this year’s competition was higher than ever. Having watched these campaigns being rolled out over the past few months, it has been refreshing to see young people utilise the various social media platforms available to them to spread a responsible message - especially at a time when the potential that social media has to influence their peers’ behaviour has been very much in the spotlight.”
