Techies for Temple street raise 200k Euro

‘Techies 4 Temple Street’ - the unique tech-themed treasure trail - returned to the streets of Dublin in style today, raising an incredible €200,000 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Now in its second year, over 1000 members of the tech community took on a series of weird and wonderful challenges around the city centre as they battled it out for the title of ‘Smartest Techies’.

The urban treasure hunt is the only event of its kind in Ireland, combining challenging outdoor activities with a whole array of digital media challenges, while also raising much-needed funds for sick children.

100 teams set off from the RDS on Friday afternoon, tasked with solving fifty location clues and completing a series of tasks and Twitter challenges, including demonstrating their Euro 2016 skills, mastering lawn darts, maneuvering a pedi-bus and taking part in a silent disco! #T4TS trended on Twitter over the course of the day as the teams shared their selfies, team successes and answers along the way.

The competition was fierce but friendly and, after three exhausting hours, teams returned to the RDS for an evening of fun, food and celebrations, where victorious Corvil were announced as 2016 champions and once again presented with the coveted Techies 4 Temple Street trophy.

Over the weeks leading up to Friday’s event, the teams have been busy collecting a minimum of €500 each for Temple Street through a variety of fundraising activities including bake sales, table quizzes and park runs. As a reward for their efforts, the top team LinkedIn received a head-start and sped away from the RDS in a convoy of Ecocabs.

The funds raised by participating teams along with the generous support of our partners and Zendesk have made this year the most successful Techies 4 Temple Street event to date, raising €200,000. The funds raised will go to support the construction of Temple Street’s new Neurology & Renal Outpatients’ Unit, benefitting over 6,000 children every year.

This year, and Zendesk came on board as leadership sponsors for the event, along with gold sponsors: 3D4 Medical, Altify, Arthur Cox, Corvil, Datalex, EisnerAmper, The FKM Group, Grant Thornton, O'Malley Sorohan, Philip Lee, pTools and Tomkins.

Denise Fitzgerald, CEO of Temple Street Foundation says, “Since day one, Ireland's tech companies have really embraced the spirit of Techies 4 Temple Street and helped make it a massive success. Following the popularity of the inaugural event in 2015, we had high hopes for an even bigger and better event this year and the day certainly didn't disappoint! The atmosphere in the RDS was electric and we followed the teams in anticipation on Twitter as they enthusiastically took on each and every challenge.”

She added, “Today’s event simply couldn’t have happened without the fundraising of our teams and the wonderful support of our sponsors. From all our little patients in Temple Street - thank you.”

Emma Gallo from the winning Corvil team says, "We're ecstatic to have won again and to retain the 'Smartest Techies' trophy. The competition was fierce and we were up against some wonderful competitors. Techies 4 Temple Street is an amazing event and Temple Street is an amazing organisation. Thank you so much and we hope to be back next year for more adventures!"
